His Essential Being
His Splendor
His Excellence
His perfection
His Basic Attitude
His Power
His Protection
I believe it is illogical, unreasonable, and absurd to consider the universe as a promiscuous product of chance. The Bible ascribes the creation of the universe to the counsel, capability and consummate wisdom, work and will of the Triune God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Humankind
Humankind exists. People are wonderfully intricate, amazingly complex and truly profound beings. Where did we come from and how did our splendid uniqueness originate?
Is it easier for you to embrace the idea that humankind slowly evolved out of some primordial ooze . . . or in faith accept the Scripture which testifies that we were specially created by God Himself?
Psalm 139:14 – "fearfully and wonderfully made."
Order and Design
How does one properly explain the incredibly orderliness of creation? Consider the design, harmony, and symmetry of the sea, the stars, the seasons and the systems of our awesome universe as it abides day after day in perfect symphony.
God's existence, His very Being, is visible in the existence of the universe, His wisdom in its complexity, His power in its motion and His goodness in its usefulness.
The universe is not like a rope of sand just spilling out into space without rhyme or reason. No, indeed, the universe is purposeful and structured on kind, dependable, moral principles.
Jeremiah 10:12 "He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens by His discretion."
Romans 1:20 "For the invisible things of God from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood from the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that men are without excuse."
Hebrews 11:3 "By faith we understand that the world was framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible."
Yes, indeed, only a person utterly void of faith would consider the universe the product of random chance; or as it is written in Psalm 14:1, "The fool has said in his heart there is no God."
Atheism—the belief that there is no God—is pernicious, painful and deadly. Consider this biblical passage from Job 18:5-21.
"The light of the wicked indeed goes out,
And the flame of his fire does not shine.
The light is dark in his tent,
And his lamp beside him is put out.
The steps of his strength are shortened,
And his own counsel casts him down
For his is cast into a net by his own feet,
And he walks into a snare.
The net takes him by the heel,
And a snare lays hold of him.
A noose is hidden for him on the ground,
And a trap for him in the road.
Terrors frighten him on every side
And drive him to his feet.
His strength is starved,
And destruction is ready at his side.
It devours patches of his skin,
The firstborn of death devours his limbs.
And they parade him before the king of terrors.
They dwell in his tent who are not of his;
Brimstone is scattered on his dwelling.
His roots are dried out below,
And his branch withers above.
The memory of him perishes from the earth,
And he has no name among the renowned.
He is driven from light into darkness,
And chased out of the world.
He has neither son nor posterity among his people,
Not any remaining in his dwellings.
Those in the west are astonished at his day,
As those in the east are frightened.
Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked,
And this is the place of him who does not know God."
Oh, yes, the Bible tells us it is a great folly to deny or doubt the existence, the very Being of God.
But listen – is it not just as great a folly not to worship and obey God when we do acknowledge His existence! Since we live and move in Him and by Him, should we not live and move to Him and for Him?
1 Corinthians 6:19,20 "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glory God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."
Results of Knowing God
Only in Christ can God be known . . .
Matthew 11:27 "All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son will reveal him."
To know Him ought to be our chief aim . . .
Philippians 3:7-10 "What things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith."
Self-mistrust is the result . . .
Job 42:5, 6 "My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."
We receive rest of mind . . .
Isaiah 26:3, 4 "You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord is the Rock eternal."
We receive eternal life . . .
John 17:3 "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
We receive great growth in Christian character . . .
Colossians 1:9-10 "For this reason, since they day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God."
